So, what’s this all about?
15 years ago, my wife and I started a side business featuring gardening and quilting. I was the gardener and my wife was the quilter. We were both very committed to our hobbies and thought it would be great fun to help others learn them and to sell things that were related. My wife came came up with the name “Sow-n-Sew, Garden and Quilt”...get it?...and that’s what we named the business. Naturally we had to have a web site.
Long story short...we discovered that we had no real proclivities for the retail business and, after a few years of struggling to find our niche, we gave it up. Thankfully we both have “real jobs” that see us through. The website had it’s ups and downs, changed hosts several times and disappeared on occasion. Since I was the designer and webmaster, but didn’t really have the time to maintain site, it went dormant. And, since the business was gone, what was the sense of keeping up a site?
On the other hand, I own the domain name for a number of years and really enjoy fiddling around with web pages.
After an interesting event took place several years ago (one that changed my life) I began to think about all of the curious hobbies I’ve had over the years and wondered if others might be looking for help in the area of having a little fun while being occupied with interesting and constructive activities. I was also eager to have another little hobby to have fun with. So I created this new SownSew.com site. But, it’s not really about gardens and quilts anymore and the title wasn’t relative to now. I still garden but my wife has moved on to knitting and I’m mostly into yodeling at the moment. What to do?
The immediate results of that “life changing event” i mentioned earlier left me dazed and unfocused for a couple years. In late 2003 I decided I would learn how to yodel in order to cheer myself up. So, I did. It’s a pastime that became an obsession (as most of my pastimes do). As I practiced this new hobby, I quickly learned that yodelers and yodel fans are relatively scarce and I felt the need to share some of what I learned with others. That was the website before this one. I got stalled on that one also and when my IP sold their hosting service, I decided to abandon that site as well.
The year 2007 brought me to another life cross-roads in the form of THE SECRET. I call 2007 my “year of enlightenment” and I can say it’s been the most interesting and rewarding year of my life. I find myself “changed” again and the resulting peace that came gave me, once again, the desire to share with others.
Oh, but the name? What will it be? Some garden content but no quilts. Lots of other stuff floating around for fun. What will it be?
I thought about it and changed my mind over and over. Thereby putting off the new site for some time. I settled for “UNTITLED” just to get something going. I also wanted to keep it simple to maintain and decided that rather than go about all the Photoshop fuss and html (which I don’t really know or care about all that much) I would doodle up the images (believe it or not I make my living as an artist) and settled for iWeb as the development tool. But the name???
I’ve had some success over the years and can assign most of that success to my early realization that I love nothing more than helping and seeing others achieve their own successes. It’s been my mission all my life although I never truly formed the concept until I over 40 years old. Thinking of that I finally came up with the name that I like. It’s something that I’ve said to myself thousands of times (probably more) over my life...
