Mary Schneider - http://www.maryschneider.com.au/index.htm
Mary is the "Australia’s Queen Of Yodelling)". Some may call her the "queen of kisch" as her most popular CDs are “Yodelling The Classics...The Complete Collection”. You will either love or hate Mary's efforts depending on your appreciation of yodeling. My guess is, since you are the yodeling freak that you are (otherwise, why would you be reading this?), you will love her. I think it’s pure genius to put yodeling to the classics and Mary does it beautifully. You can purchase Mary’s CDs by visiting her website. Also found frequently on eBay and Amazon. Or use the iTUnes button under the pic. Click Mary’s picture for a sample of her amazing yodeling.
Riders In The Sky - http://ridersinthesky.com/domain/877/index.htm
A long time cowboy group (30 + years), they have a terrific mellow cowboy song of the 30’s and 40’s. Ranger Doug is the official yodeler but they all pitch in when necessary. Ranger Doug mentored the yodeling sensation, Taylor Ware. They have many albums but the one you’ll most want is “Yodel The Cowboy Way”. It’s all cowboy yodel songs and a great one to yodel along with if you’re just learning (well...if you yodel well also). Unfortunately it’s out of production so no longer on iTunes but you can still find it on eBay or Amazon.
Oesch’s die Dritten - http://www.oesches.ch/
A Swiss family band. Their big hit is a cover of Peter Hinnen's Ku-Ku-Jodel that he wrote and performed back in the sixties. Melanie, the lead singer, performs this beautifully (if you can sing La-La-La-La-La-La-La as fast as her, you have a future in yodeling!). The CD to look for is "Jodel Zauber" although they have several. It's about half and half for yodel songs and songs with no yodels and instrumentals, but every track is a delight. It's exciting to know that they spent 51 weeks on the Swiss Top 100 Albums charts...YODELING! Click the iTunes button to download their best selling CD. Sample their HUGE hit by clicking the pic.
Toni Blum Seitz - http://www.swissyodeler.com/
Toni is a native of the New Glarus, Wisconsin area and has become a well know yodeler in the area. Her recording “Yodels From Swissconsin” is a real delight. She yodels in a classic Swiss manner (being a 6th generation Swiss, it most likely in her genes). Every song is a delight but, the standouts (to me - because they are all or mostly yodeling) are “Swiss Yodel Waltz”, “Up On A Cliff” and (the most outstanding) “Doc Blum’s Song”. Terrific! An added treat is the very lively accompaniment of David Austin. His accordion playing is pure magic. Blum’s CD is widely available and you can click the link under her photo to go to iTunes. It’s also available on Amazon and eBay. Click the photo for a sound sample.
Troy Flemming - http://www.troyflemming.com/
Here's new discovery I found on the net. Troy is an acoustic musician, vocalist and teacher in Minnesota. Having taken up yodeling, he posted some covers of well know Alpine yodels on his YodelMeister website. He does a good version of Peter Hinnen’s "KuKu Jodel" and an even better cover of Hinnen's "Eine Rose blüht in Colorado". He includes two more tradtional yodels "Traditionellen" and "Das Kufsteiner Lied". Troy became so obsessed with yodeling and Franzl Lang that he took a college course in German just so he could sing in the native lanquage. He’s teamed with his charming young family to form a singing group - The Flemming Fold. They’ve just released (2009) their new CD IF DREAMS THERE BE. It’s a lovely mix of old timey country, gospel songs and alpine yodeling. Click Troy’s photo for a sound sample.
