Peter Hinnen. I’ve been remiss in not listing Peter Hinnen earlier. Next to Kerry Chrsitensen and Franzl Lang, Peter is one of my all-time favorite yodelers. His range is absolutely amazing and he shares the world record for the fastest yodel - 22 yodel tones in 1 second (Peter Scholl actually achieved that record first in 1992). Hinnen created the Ku-Ku Jodel that put Oesch’s die Dritten on the map. He started performing as a child in the 50‘s and was very well known and moved into POP stardom in the 60’s. He later became focused on country music. Yodeling all the while. Hinnen album’s are rare but very much worth the search. You’ll have your best chance on eBay. Be sure to select “worldwide” option for searches as most of the good stuff will come from Europe. Try the sound sample on the picture to hear Peter’s amazing yodeling.
Joanna Allen - Yodeling Tribute. What a terrific yodeler and I believe she recorded this CD when she was 14. She also has a CD (What’s Not To Love) that she recorded when she was 11 - which is terribly cute. I adore Taylor Ware, but Joanna’s yodel is far stronger and is filled with passion. She performs one of the best versions of The Mule Skinner Blues that I have ever heard. Joanna went missing, but I’ve since received news that she is now 18 and headed for college (20090. She’s chosen to cut back on her musical pursuits so any future recordings are up in the air. Best of luck to Joanna! (You can still enjoy her yodeling. CLick on the ITunes button under her picture.)
Tony Clark - http://yodelingtonyclark.co.uk/
Tony is a singer and yodeler from the UK. I found him on Squidoo and thought his yodeling was fantastic! In fact, it’s very reminiscent of Frank Ifield, who is one of the greatest yodelers of our time. Tony’s version of “She Taught Me To Yodel” is terrific and his yodels are strong and clear. I think you will enjoy Tony’s yodeling and you can find him on iTunes. You’ll also enjoy his other song renditions which are filled with passion and great vocals. Click Tony’s photo for a great sample of his terrific yodeling.
Marianne and Michael - http://www.marianneundmichael.de/
Their videos proliferate Youtube and they always seem to be having fun. Spanning generations (35+ years) they have become the most loved couple in German Folk Music as well as Popular Music. Their harmony is impeccable and yodels are supreme. During their performances, they portray a keen connection of love and joy. What their lives are really like I don't know since I can't read or speak German so I can't follow German Gossip. I choose to believe that they are beautifully content...how could they not be, when yodeling together?!) They are consummate performers and you can feel their joy in every song. Try the sound sample on the picture to hear their great yodeling.
Sourdough Slim “Last of the Vaudeville Cowboys”- http://www.sourdoughslim.com/
I found Slim on YouTube when searching for yodels. He gives a great performance and has a subtle humor that permeates his act. And, he sure can yodel! You might want to search around to find some great videos of his performances. His recordings sometimes show up on eBay! and you can visit his website to purchase as well. I sure want a Sourdough Slim hat! The sound byte is a live performance...give it a listen by clicking the photo. The ending yodel is amazing!
