Adi Unterberger “The Yodelling Woodcarver” - http://www.yodellingwoodcarver.com/
Adi’s been around for many years and his yodeling is beautiful with a pure classic tone. His high notes are sublime. Mostly performing in local venues, his recordings are self-produced. They are worth searching out. You can buy from his website or for more vintage recordings search eBay. Give a listen to the sample and you’ll be hooked (click Adi’s photo}.
Arthur Brogli - no web presence
If you are a yodel fan, you’ve got to find Brogli's two LP's - Happy Yodeling and Spectacular Yodeling (the latter being the best). These self-produced recordings were made in the 70‘s I believe. Brogli has a fantastic, clear, crisp yodel that is a pleasure to hear. I have over 2000 yodels in my collection and Brogli stands out among the best. The thing I like most about his recordings is the combination of simple accompaniment of accordion and piano that lets the vocal shine through. He truly represents a fine Swiss yodel. Brogli’s recordings are very rare so buy them if you can find them. They show up occasionally on eBay and It appears that there’s a CD out there. Worth searching for! Try the sound sample by clicking the photo. It’s terrific! Also here’s a very rare video of Arthur performing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIfAHAYlVoU If you have any information about Brogli, please send me a YODEL ALERT.
Harry Torrani (1902 - 1979)
History about Torrani is vague but he was a very famous singer and yodeler in the 30’s and 40’s. Born Harry Hopkinson in England, he adopted the name Torrani for the stage. He’s often given credit for bringing yodeling into mainstream popular music. You can read more about him here - http://www.aboutderbyshire.co.uk/cms/people/harrys-way-the-story-of-h.shtml There’s a compilation CD out there which you can often find on eBay. Click the photo to try the sound sample - The Cuckoo Waltz - my very favorite Torrani yodel.
The DeZurik Sisters AKA - The Cackle Sisters.
Born in the early 1900’s Mary Jane and Caroline became famous in the 30’s because of their terrific yodeling and abilities to imitate many sounds, especially chickens (hence “The Cackle Sisters”). Their sound is absolutely delightful. Try the sound sample (click the photo) - gauranteed to bring a smile to your face. Actual recordings are rarely found but try eBay and here’s a page with a load of songs from Checkerboard Time Radio Show - http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/08/365-days-214---.html
Thomas Scholl - no web presence.
Funny, Scholl holds the Guiness world record for the fastest yodel - 22 tones (15 falsetto) in one second - yet seems he seems to have dissapeared. He was popular in the 70’s as far as I can tell and there’s one LP that shows up on eBay occasionally as well as a few 45’s. If you know anything about Scholl, please send me a YODEL ALERT. The album is worth searching out. Try the sound sample at the left (click Thomas’ photo) for fun and you’ll hear why he won the record for fastest yodel.
