Maria and Margot Hellwig - http://www.hellwig-musik.de/

Maria Hellwig began performing in the 40’s and became well known in the 50’s as she focused on German Folkmusic and yodeling. In the 60’s she teamed up with daughter Margot and they gained icon status over the years as Folkmusic artists. They harmonize beautifully and you can find a nice assortment of videos on YouTube. Click on Maria’s photo for sound samples. Albums show up on eBay and iTunes.

Angela Weidl - http://www.angela-wiedl.de/

A german superstar in both folk and pop music. Her voice is immaculate and her yodels are simply the best. Capable of a huge range of styles and genre, Angela is all over YouTube. Angela began performing with the Tegernseer Alpenquintett in the early eighties where she sang and yodeled. Her stunning vocals soon made her very successful. She went on her own in the nineties and soared in popularity. With numerous top hits and awards she's a international favorite. Check out the sample by clicking on the photo  and I think you'll agree that even if she didn't yodel she is sheer joy to listen to. Angela’s CD’s show up on eBay but use the worldwide option when searching. You’ll have to use the German iTunes to find her music there.

Takeo Ischi - no web presence.

Takeo was born in Japan in the late 40’s and became fascinated with German Yodeling. He learned the art and moved to Bavaria where he became very popular in the 70’s and 80’s. His “claim to fame” was putting traditional yodels to “dance music” - check out the sound sample - and, in my opinion it works very well. He’s on YouTube where you can hear an assortment of songs. Get his music off iTUnes and they sometimes show up on ebay.

Florian Fesl - http://www.florian-fesl.de/

Florian is not known for his yodeling although the sound sample has a brief snippet. I had to include him though since he’s the “new generation” of German/Swiss folk music. High energy, great vocals and he plays a wicked accordion, Florian is a toe tapping pleasure to hear.  Get his album off iTunes! Every number is a gem and you will feel energized after listening to it.

Die Grubertaler - http://www.grubertaler.at/home.htm

Another “new generation” group from Austria. These youngsters put so much energy into their music it will lift you off the ground. Great harmony and they are yodeling more in their more recent performances and recordings. Naturally, you can find them on YouTube and after listening to the sample, you’ll want to get to iTunes right away to buy their cd’s.
