Yoshio Ohno: http://www.yoshio-ohno.jp/index.shtml

Can’t say I know much about Yoshio Ohno since all of of the information I find is written in Japanese. But I do know he is a terrific yodeler. Apparently he is one of the most popular country singers in Japan. Born in 1931, he started performing in his first band in 1951. As far as i can determine, he is still performing. He’s all over YouTube so search him out for some terrific yodeling as well as for covers of some very classic and popular songs - many sung in Japanese. I’ve not been able to find any sources to purchase recordings. Let me know if you have any information about Yoshio Ohno.

Janet McBride: http://www.heroeswest.com/yodelqueen/

I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful yodeler. She’s been yodeling for 50+ years and is a true hero in perpetuating this fine art. When I contacted her about adding her to this site she was warm and generous. If you are a real yodeling fan you MUST have her CD - 50 Years Of Yodeling With Janet McBride - yodeling from 1951 to 2001. It is one of the finest collections of yodeling I have in my archives. She also recently released a brand new cd “Still Loving the Ride”. It has a few yodeling songs and a little country, a little gospel...it is terrific. Certainly Janet’s voice has changed over  50 years but it still has a captivating nuance whether she’s singing her own compositions or the tried and true cowboy favorites. Click on the CD Baby button under Janet’s picture to get her album. To hear a sample click Janet’s pic.

Olga Lowina: 1924 - 1994

Olga Helena Lowina Van Puttenmusters was considered a “superstar” in her day. Born in Boekelo, Netherlands she became popular by belting out both folk and pop songs complete with yodels. She is featured on the cover of Bart Platenga’s book YODEL-AY-EE-OOOO, The Secret History of Yodeling Around the World and gets good coverage in the content. She had several mahor yodeoing hits in the 50s and in 1957 was named the most popular female yodeler in Germany. Her recordings are extremely difficult to find and I was thrilled to find a compilation on iTunes.  It’s not her best yodeling but it really demonstrates her ability.  Plantenga quotes her as saying, “I have an iron throat, I don’t need a microphone, and I have the stamina to sing for hours.”  Apparently she demonstrated that comment many time in front of audiences of a thousand or more without a microphone. Click Olga’s photo for a sample of that powerful singing.
